The What & When of Keywords

The What & When of Keywords

Keywords are simply the words and phrases that a person types into their search engine browser when they are searching for something.

So how do you know what words your ideal client will use when looking for your website? The easiest way is to think about why your ideal client has a need for your services or products.

  • Start by making a list of the issues, challenges, frustrations that your ideal client is experiencing that makes them want to call you.
  • Once you have a comprehensive list type each word into a keyword research tool like:
    • http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com or
    • http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/
  • The keyword research tool will show you how many searches are performed for each of those words or phrases. The keyword research tool may suggest additional words and phrases.

You want to choose a couple of keywords that are highly searched for but not being used by your competitors resulting in very few search engine results.

So what do you those keywords once you have them?

  • Include them in your domain name
  • Include them in your webpage title
  • Use them as a topic for an article
  • Use them as the alt tags on your images
  • Use them as the title of an article/blog post
  • Use them in your sentences when writing web content and articles
